mouth machine

love bombed

how i structured the song

two waveforms of a voice memo of mouth drums: as played, and snapped to its own beat
the loop came first: a voice memo of mouth drums, snapped to four bars of three. every take was played over it

89 bars of three, a little over a second each. the numbers are the clips below

  1. 1 the center take. its first half four times, then all of it · has sound

    bars 1 to 48

  2. 2 the bottom-left take, whole · has sound

    bars 49 to 64

  3. 3 the top-right take · has sound

    bars 65 to 72

  4. 4 the first quarter of the bottom-left take, backwards, four times, fading · has sound

    bars 73 to 88

the loop was playing in the room for every take, so it is under all of it. it comes to the front, clean, where the guitar turns backwards

how i structured the visual layers and the effects used

  1. 1 at the back, older phone videos letters: each small cell of the picture becomes one letter. the darker the picture, the denser the letter
  2. 2 over them, the guitar two colours: darker than 60 percent goes flat wine. the rest goes clear, so the letters show through
  3. 3 on top, along the bottom, the words and the heads one grey video the size of the page: wherever it is dark, the page is painted pink

in the last sixteen bars the guitar fades away and the letters fade into the videos they were drawn from

#ff8fb3 #240a14 two colours, nothing else

the last spoken words are my love. the sung my love answers, four times, four bars apart, four heads each time · has sound the heads: nine phone videos of a face singing in front of a dark backdrop. the bright face is kept and painted pink, the backdrop goes clear

how i did the cover

the first eight bars around the sun, over and over, in Poiret One. the letters grow down the page, and each next phrase along a row gets three more dots before it. up from black corner to corner, then gone
a strip of the title: one of the phrases says happy birthday
